In this film, Doris Salcedo discusses her installation Plegario Muda at Moderna Museet, Malmö. Salcedo discusses how the project was initiated after a visit to the ghettos of Los Angeles in 2004, and, how, after extensive research into the violent deaths of young people in the city, it developed and took shape. Salcedo touches on the notion of 'death in life' or 'social death' and how this effects the perverse and fluid interchange between victim and killer in deprived urban areas. She also discusses the relationship of the work to the Colombian conflict, and, in particular, to the violent murder of young men from remote areas by the military, that occurred between 2003-2009.
