Directed by Heinz Peter Schwerfel
Running time: 52 minutes
In this film, director Heinz Peter Schwerfel confronts Georg Baselitz about his initial appearance on camera in 1987 where he characterised his paintings as deliberately disharmonious and anchored in the 'ugly tradition' of German painting. On the occasion of his retrospective exhibition at Bundeskunsthalle Bonn, a milder and more serene Baselitz reflects on the themes and techniques in his work, his biographical subject matter, relationship to contemporary art and interest in African sculpture.
