Dead Man’s Shoes
Directed by Shane Meadows
Running time: 90 minutes
Directed by Shane Meadows and co-written with lead actor Paddy Considine, Dead Man's Shoes (2004) is a violent revenge thriller set in rural Derbyshire. Disaffected soldier Richard (Considine) returns to his home town of Matlock after seven years in the army. Keen to get even with the small-time drug dealers who brutally attacked his mentally retarded brother Anthony, he sets up camp in the hills overlooking the town, reminiscing over his past. Unsettling and violent, this terrifying and bleak film is unashamedly angry and explores the self-destructive role of violence in small-town communities. Set against the beautiful landscape of the Peak District, the film ends on a note of tragic redemption.
