Ryoji Ikeda was born in 1966 in Gifu, Japan and lives and works in Paris, France and Kyoto, Japan.
One of Japan’s leading electronic composers and visual artists, Ikeda has gained a reputation as one of the few international artists working convincingly across both sonic and visual media. He focuses on the essential characteristics of sound and creates visuals using light, elaborately orchestrating sound, visuals, materials, physical phenomena and mathematical notions into immersive live performances and installations.
Alongside these activities Ikeda is also working on other long-term projects through live performances, installations, books and CD’s.
