The Kunsthaus Bregenz is pleased to present an exhibition of new and well known installations by Candice Breitz, entitled ‘The Scripted Life’. The exhibition includes five works from her new double portrait series ‘Factum’, and premiers the first screening of ‘New York, New York’ in a European venue.
‘Factum’ is a new series of video installations that focuses on the similarities and differences between different sets on identical twins. These are explored through lengthy interviews between Breitz and the siblings and displayed as an installation on dual plasma screens.
‘New York, New York’ is based on film documentation of Breitz’s first theatrical performance at Performa 09 last year. The work is based on two improvised live performances directed by Breitz with each performance including an almost identical cast composed of four sets of identical twins.
Breitz will also be exhibiting other well known works such as ‘Working Class Hero (A Portrait of John Lennon)’, 2006 and ‘Him + Her’, 1968 –2008, starring Jack Nicholson as ‘Him’ and Meryl Streep as ‘Her’ extracted from a series of films made over 40 years.
A catalogue featuring texts by Beatrice von Bismarck, Okwui Enwezor, Colin Richards, and Edgar Schmitz, accompanies the exhibition.
