27 February–16 May 2016
Museum der bildenden Künst will display an exhibition of Anselm Kiefer’s books along with paintings and sculptures by the artist that also evoke books.
One highlight is the library, Shevirat Ha-Kelim: The Breaking of the vessels (2011). Comprising thirty volumes of lead and broken glass, it evokes the cabalistic myth of the divine act of creation according to Isaac Louria, a 14th century rabbi.
Visitors will also have the opportunity to discover the following pieces: a collection of books dedicated to writers, cosmogonies or antic myths, sand books, burnt books and recent books of erotic watercolours made on plaster.
This exhibition discloses Anselm Kiefer’s artistic process and demonstrates the books being at the core of his practice.
The presentation of Kiefer’s work was previously at The Bibliothèque nationale de France in Autumn 2015.
