Antony Gormley at Harewood House
Antony Gormley will debut two new works on the Terrace Gallery of Harewood House this August. ‘Two States’ is a homage to the sculptor Sir Jacob Epstein’s work ‘Adam’, which is also exhibited at Harewood. The sculptor was a major influence on the early art of Antony Gormley.
Cast from oxidised iron, ‘Two States’ provides a stark contrast to Epstein’s alabaster ‘Adam’. According to Gormley, the commission is intended to ‘describe an unsteady vertical stack twisting through 90 degrees, allowing the viewer to feel and think about his or her own body as an unsteady vertical mass in space.’
