10 December 2014 – 18 January 2015
Preview and conference with the artist: 9 December 2014, 7pm
Candice Breitz, whose earliest video installation Babel Series (1999) was shown at the Centre d’Art Contemporain Genève in 2000, now returns to the venue on the occasion of the Centre’s 40th anniversary, to present dual-channel installation Treatment (2013).
In Treatment Breitz recreates scenes from David Cronenberg’s film The Brood (1979), which explores the emotional strain experienced by a couple in psychotherapy, battling for custody of their five-year-old daughter. Scenes from the film are projected with their original soundtrack removed, overlaid with a dubbed soundtrack created by Breitz. Voice-overs for the characters are provided by the artist’s own real-life therapist, her mother and father, and Breitz herself.
On 9 December the artist will give a talk and screen excerpts from recent works, tracing her journey from Babel Series to her current projects.
