Cerith Wyn Evans is featured in ‘Spatial Illumination – 9 Lights in 9 Rooms’ the inaugural exhibition at the D Museum in Seoul, South Korea. The exhibition displays work by artists who have taken light as their medium and used it in a variety of forms. Encompassing installation, sculpture, video, sound and design, the works of art are each assigned one of nine rooms.
Wyn Evans’ Neon Forms (After Noh II and II) (2015) are displayed in the room titled ‘Encounter the purity of light’. These sculptures are inspired by the precise, restrained movements of traditional Japanese Noh (能) theatre. They transform energies into material and visual forms by tracing the trajectories of moving bodies and translating them into a maze of complex lines. The plants interspersed among the neon sculptures rotate almost imperceptibly on turntables, producing an otherworldly presence.
