Hanes Gallery: ‘SoundSeen - Cage / Braxton / Marclay’
6 February – 26 March 2017
SECCA: ‘SoundSeen: Remix – Cage / Braxton / Marclay’
16 March – 18 May 2017
Christian Marclay’s work features in ‘SoundSeen’ and ‘SoundSeen: Remix’, an exhibition in two sequential iterations presenting different works by the same three artists (John Cage, Anthony Braxton and Christian Marclay). The starting point for both exhibitions is the graphic score – musical ideas presented as images rather than standard musical notation.
Hanes Gallery will feature Marclay’s Taped Tapes (1994), a group of drawings made with audio tape. Secca will feature Marclay’s Graffiti Composition (2002), Shuffle (2007) and To Be Continued (2016).
A performance of Marclay’s new composition, To Be Continued, will take place at SECCA on 12 April 2017 by ensemble baBel, preceded by a gallery talk presented by the artist.
