Christian Marclay at the Israel Museum
Christian Marclay continues to receive global success as his critically acclaimed 24-hour film ‘The Clock’ travels to Israel in August. Marclay was the recipient of the Golden Lion award this year at the 54th Venice Biennale for the work, which has previously been exhibited in New York, Venice, Los Angeles and Moscow since it’s premiere at White Cube Mason's Yard in October 2010.
For the single-channel video, the artist excerpted thousands of movie fragments that feature a clock or a character referring to the time and edited these together so that they flow in real time. While 'The Clock' examines how time, plot and duration are depicted in cinema, the video is also a working timepiece that is synchronised to the local time zone. At any moment, the viewer can look at the work and use it to tell the time.
