Chuck Close at Museum der Moderne, Salzburg
With his fascinating, realistic portraits, Chuck Close has been one of the most prominent representatives of photorealism since the and throughout his artistic career he has experimented with new forms of expression of visual perception.
The exhibition consists of 100 works and focuses on Close's prolific graphic œuvre. He finds unique and innovative ways of probing and expanding the boundaries of the multi-faceted possibilities and techniques of this medium. The exhibition not only showcases numerous works from all his creative phases, but also features numerous works that illustrate the elaborate and lengthy production process of graphic printing. Close‘s works are based on photographs of himself, his family, friends and fellow artists such as Philipp Glass, Lucas Samaras and Alex Katz. More recently, the artist has been preoccupied with the production of elaborate tapestries, which are given a prominent position within the exhibition.
