'Beyond Reality, British Painting Today' is an exhibition at the Galerie Rudolfinum in Prague. The exhibition is an eclectic overview of contemporary British painting, presenting the work of twelve contemporary artists, including Damien Hirst and Jake & Dinos Chapman.
The exhibition reflects the growing importance of post-conceptual and figurative painting and highlights the extraordinary position it currently holds in British art. In the first part of the exhibition the works displayed reference photographic realism and in the second part, there is obvious reference to academic and classical painting of the 19th century. This divide helps to highlight one of the key themes in the exhibition; the many possibilities and methods of presenting reality within contemporary British painting.
The exhibition was conceived by Milena Slavická and is curated by Petr Nedoma.
