15 April – 15 June 2015
‘O fim da matéria’ is a solo exhibition by Damián Ortega, curated by Luiz Camillo Osorio, presented by MAM. Ortega has created a site-specific sculptural installation – a large-scale polystyrene cube, which will be repeatedly altered during the exhibition by a group of Brazilian sculptors who have previously worked for the carnival. Remaining anonymous, each day they will remove pieces of the cube and use them to recreate well known artworks.
Ortega’s sculptures, installations, videos and actions utilise a wide range of often mundane objects, exploring specific economic, aesthetic and cultural situations.
