Doris Salcedo at Hiroshima City Museum of Contemporary Art
19 July to 18 October 2014
Doris Salcedo has been awarded the 9th Hiroshima Art Prize, which recognises the achievements of artists who have contributed to the peace of humanity in the field of contemporary art. The prize will be marked with an exhibtion of Salcedo's Plegaria Muda (2008 –10), a large-scale installation work composed of 121 units made from wood, cement and living grass.
I accept gratefully and humbly this prize that represents not only a recognition to my work but the responsibility to continue addressing the experience of victims of human violence, so their suffering will not be forgotten.
