Colombian artist Doris Salcedo is the inaugural winner of the Nasher Prize for Sculpture. The annual, international,$100,000 award, from the Nasher Sculpture Center in Dallas, is presented to a living artist who has made a significant impact on the field of sculpture.
Salcedo’s work addresses the theme of conflict, using historical and political events as a point of departure and often integrating domestic and everyday objects. Her work is currently the subject of a major retrospective at the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum, New York, on view until 12 October 2015.
