The Rolf Schock Prize for Visual Arts is awarded to Doris Salcedo for her exceptional ability to achieve material manifestations of loss and longing.
Employing domestic materials charged with significance and suffused with meanings, Salcedo makes sculptures and installations that function as political and mental archaeology.
Following Rolf Schock’s death in 1986, a foundation was established with the purpose of awarding four prizes in the fields of philosophy, mathematics, music and visual arts.
The award ceremony will be held at the Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences on 14 November 2017.
