22 March - 25 May 2014
Eberhard Havekost, whose work utilises densely layered digitally printed and painted surfaces in the rendering of visual components of everyday life, will feature in the exhibition ‘Room Service – On the Hotel in the Arts and Artists in the Hotel,’ at Staatliche Kunsthalle, Baden-Baden.
This exhibition, situated in a spa resort whose identity has been fundamentally constituted by its long-standing function as a tourist destination, interrogates the social, political and mythological importance of the hotel as a semi-public space. Exploring motifs of desire, the hotel is considered as a backdrop for both intimate moments and affairs of state.
The show at Staatliche Kunsthalle will feature two works by Havekost; Skihotel, 1996 and Sega-Simulation-Hotel, 1996. Numerous artists have contributed to an exhibition route which traverses the city to encompass site-specific installations in the rooms of prominent hotels, as well as lobbies, parking garages and theatres.
