Ellen Altfest is among the artists to feature in the 5th edition of The Biennale of Painting in the region of Lys, Belgium, titled ‘Yoknapatawpha’ in the Museum Dhondt-Dhaenens. Focusing on painting from the last 150 years, this edition of the Biennial aims to explore the desire or longing, for the unknown and exotic, versus the certainty of the personal and known.
Altfest’s small-scale oil-paintings are painstakingly executed and drawn from life and realised over a long period of time. The writer and artist David Humphrey’s describes Altfest’s work: ‘her paintings celebrate the way objects become engulfed by their surroundings and simple acts of identification multiply and transform.’
The Biennale of Painting will be on display in the Museum Dhondt-Dhaenens, the Museum of Deinze and the Leie and the Museum Roger Raveel.
