The exhibition ‘Fred Tomaselli: The Early Works Or How I Became a Painter’, brings together twelve mixed media paintings, a video and seven installations. Dating from between 1984 and 1992 many of these works have not been exhibited since they were created.
The exhibition focuses on Tomaselli’s early work, which was made prior to the paintings for which he is best known. Influenced by his interest in punk-rock and the Californian Light and Space movement, one of the unifying themes of this show is his use of low cost, nondescript commercial objects.
