Gary Hume will present Neptune (2012) as part of 'Hors les Murs' at FIAC 2013. The stainless steele sculpture will be installed in the Jardin des Tuileres in the ground of the Muséum National d'Histoire Naturelle in Paris.
Hume is renowned for paintings that are distinguished by a bright palette, reduced imagery and flat areas of seductive colour; his 'Snowmen' works are sculptural versions of this minimalist painting. In recent works like Neptune, the artist continues to develop his definitive style of high gloss paint and insistent reflective surfaces - first established in the 1990s, by adopting a broader set of sculptural motifs.
Hume stated in an interview in The Guardian (2002) that 'the snowman is the perfect sculpture. Like the door was the perfect door. It works entirely in the round; you're supposed to be able to travel around it and there are no dead zones'.
