Gary Hume at Leeds Art Gallery
‘Gary Hume: Flashback’ opens at Leeds Art Gallery this February. The exhibition features earlier works by the artist as well as more recent painting and sculpture. Flashback is a new series of exhibitions which invites artists to revisit their earlier works in the Arts Council Collection and to use them as starting points for reflection on their wider, subsequent practice.
Hume represented Great Britain at the Venice Biennale in 1999. Solo exhibitions include White Cube (2012), Modern Art Oxford (2008), the Irish Museum of Modern Art (2003), Whitechapel Art Gallery (1999). Hume is renowned for his reduced imagery and use of a bright colour palette.
Flashback not only encourages a fresh perspective of an artist’s development, but also celebrates the Arts Council Collection’s progressive approach to acquiring works for the nation. Gary Hume: Flashback will be the third exhibition in the Arts Council Flashback series, following on from Bridget Riley and Anish Kapoor Flashback exhibitions.
