14 February–13 May 2018
Haim Steinbach features in the Hirshhorn Museum’s group exhibition ‘Brand New: Art and Commodity in the 1980s’.
This expansive exhibition presents a fresh and focussed history of the decade that saw seismic shifts in politics, economics and technology and brought about a golden era of contemporary art in the United States.
Featuring nearly 150 works, the show examines the rise of a new generation of artists in 1980s New York that blurred the lines between art, entertainment and commerce and whose influence still defines contemporary art today. Steinbach’s on vend du vent (1988) and Shelf with Ajax (1981) are both on display.
