He Xiangyu and Liu Wei feature in ‘Turning Point: Contemporary Art in China Since 2000’, a group exhibition that brings together 52 artists, working in media including painting, sculpture, video and animation.
The exhibition focuses on how Chinese contemporary artists have responded to the country’s social movements and emerging trends of thought, as well as the increasing presence of digital technology since 2000.
He Xiangyu’s painting Everything We Create is Not Ourselves 90-1 (2016) included in the exhibition is part of his ongoing ‘Palate Project’, where the artist explores personal perception through repeatedly rendering ‘drawings’ of the roof of his own mouth using different media.
Jungle No.2 (2012) and Jungle No.4 (2012) by Liu Wei are two monochrome canvases which have been transformed into sculptural objects. Both of these works reflect the artist’s interest in transforming materials and contemporary urban landscape.
