Brazilian artist Jac Leirner's first retrospective in Mexico, ‘Funciones de una variable’ spans three decades of her work, providing a comprehensive overview of her formal and conceptual practices.
Closely related to the formal and spatial expressions of neo-Brazilian concretism, as well as the conceptual strategies of the Sixties and Seventies, both in Brazil and internationally, Jac Leirner’s practice focuses on the accumulation of everyday objects and their reconfiguration as sculptural forms that inhabit the exhibition. Leirner creates circuits and systems by rearranging the objects she collects and classifies meticulously, incorporating them into codes and structures which not only give new meaning to the objects, but confers upon them a new value and use.
