7 November 2013-9 March 2014
Jeff Wall explores the possibilities of artistic composition by redefining the boundaries between painting, photography, sculpture and film and blurring the distinction between fiction and reality in his photographs. From early on in the artist's career, Munich has evolved into a centre for his work, they were well-received by the city and were being exhibited, collected and published in Munich by the early 1980s.
This display of 20 works brought together from different collections in Munich, largely date from the 1980s and 1990s and provide an overview of an important period in Wall’s career. The exhibition includes works that are well-known and frequently exhibited such as The Thinker and Restoration, as well as lesser well-known works that are rarely shown.
'Jeff Wall in Munich' was curated by Inka Graeve Ingelmann. There will be a catalogue published by Schirmer/Mosel to accompany the exhibition.
A diverse events programme will be held to accompany the exhibition, featuring tours, workshops, art talks, and film screenings. On Thursday 7 November 2013 Jeff Wall will give an artist talk in the Ernst von Siemens-Auditorium.
