Josiah McElheny at the Whitechapel Gallery
Josiah McElheny will transform Gallery 2 of the Whitechapel Gallery into a hall of mirrors as part of the latest Bloomberg Commission.
Entitled 'The Past Was A Mirage I'd Left Far Behind', the artist will use seven large –scale mirrored sculptures arranged as multiple reflective screens, upon which he will project a selected programme of experimental abstract films. These sculptures will abstract the films by reflection and refraction of the imagery onto the gallery walls.
To accompany the exhibition, the artist has organised a series of film presentations, lectures and events that explore the concept of abstraction in film.
On Thursday 8 September at 6pm, the artist will discuss the commission with Whitechapel curator Daniel F. Herrmann. This talk is free to the public.
