Five monumental sculptures by Marc Quinn will be presented in Somerset House’s Edmond J. Safra Fountain Court, in an exhibition titled ‘Frozen Waves, Broken Sublimes’. The stainless steel sculptures, measuring up to 7.5 metres in length, originate from the remnants of partially eroded shells, which have been dramatically scaled up.
The sculptures were first shown at White Cube Bermondsey as part of the recent exhibition ‘The Toxic Sublime’. Jonathan Reekie, Director of Somerset House has said: ‘When I saw Marc’s new sculptures at his recent White Cube show I immediately wanted to bring them here to Somerset House, so they could sit in the “surf” of the magical fountains in our courtyard, reflecting the beautiful surroundings’. This is the first time the sculptures have been exhibited outdoors.
