30 April–3 July 2016
Michael Armitage is featured in ‘Imitation of Life: Melodrama and Race in the 21st Century’. Curated by Omar Kholief and Sarah Perks, this new exhibition considers the politics of representation and race in an evolving digital world.
The paintings by Armitage featured in the exhibition, Kampala Suburb (2014) and Campus Divas (2014), are characteristic of this artist, as their dream-like, phantasmagorical surfaces and rich colour-palettes are underpinned by an exploration of the darker aspects of life in contemporary Kenya.
Alongside the exhibition, HOME will be publishing a new book, Fear Eats the Soul, featuring responses by artists and writers to the exhibition and its themes.
