6 December 2014 – 1 March 2015
A solo exhibition by Mona Hatoum – the artist’s first in Brazil .
Hatoum is known for her transformation of familiar, everyday objects into visceral and politically loaded artworks. For this exhibition, 30 works in various media are presented, as well as a never before seen installation. The work, Sonhando Acordado (2014), is composed of 33 pillowcases embroidered by the mothers of child cardiac patients. The artist became aware of their embroidery work during her first trip to Brazil in 2010, through the organisation ACTC who house them while their children are undergoing treatment, Hatoum later invited them to contribute to the work.
