1 June 2015 – June 2017
The Dia Foundation presents Robert Irwin’s Excursus: Homage to the Square³ (1998–99). Irwin’s environmental installation returns to public view fifteen years after its premier at Dia Center for the Arts in New York City, the Dia Foundation’s former exhibition space. The work began as a site-specific installation entitled Prologue: x18³ that occupied an entire floor, featuring fluorescent lights installed in eighteen chambers. From 1 June 2015 audiences will be able to experience Irwin’s ‘site-conditioned’ installation responding specifically to the architecture of Dia:Beacon and extending throughout the building to the landscaped gardens and forecourt, which has been designed by the artist.
The new installation will be on view at Dia:Beacon for two years, and will be accompanied by a publication and a symposium, scheduled for spring 2016.
