Runa Islam's Cabinet of Prototypes (2009-10) will be screened at the Centre Pompidou in Paris. Islam re-visits methods of representation and perception through her films - generally shown in the form of installation - and in turn explores the dramatic, formal and conceptual changes introduced by the medium and language of film.
For Cabinet of Prototypes Islam has created a work full of references inspired by the research she conducted as an artist fellow at the Smithsonian Institution's Freer and Arthur M. Sackler Galleries. The film includes the stands, hooks, plinths and labels used to present artifacts in the collection.
The even has been organised Philippe-Alain Michaud.
