29 November 2013 - 13 April 2014
'City Self' is an exhibition of works chosen from the Museum of Contemporary Art Chicago's own collection. The exhibition, curated by Dieter Roelstraete the Senior Curator at the museum, will feature works that 'hold a mirror to the museum’s hometown'. The exhibition includes works by both Chicago artists and 'outsiders' from the collection
'City Self' will play host to the American premiere of Chicago (2011), Sarah Morris’ tenth film and part of her ongoing series of 'city portraits' . Set to a hypnotic electronic score by British artist Liam Gillick, Morris’s film pays homage to the American city. Morris paints a panoramic picture of Chicago’s emblematic built-up environment and 'pierces the city’s well-tended surface to reveal something altogether less planned'. The film's close-ups and spying glances make the viewer feel like they inhabit the outsider’s 'probing gaze'.
