The Royal Academy’s annual Summer Exhibition will this year include Larry Bell’s Spider Webb (1988), Mona Hatoum’s Grater Divide (2002), Gary Hume’s Yellow Nude No. 8 and Companion Painting (2014), Anselm Kiefer’s, Kranke Kunst, (2012) as well as works by Georg Baselitz, Tracey Emin and Christian Marclay.
The world’s largest open submission exhibition, the Summer Exhibition continues one of the RA’s founding pledges, to 'mount an annual exhibition open to all artists of distinguished merit' and has been held every year without interruption since 1769. This year over 1,200 artworks were selected from 12,000 entries by the hanging committee of Royal Academicians led by Hughie O’Donoghue, coordinator of the Summer Exhibition 2014
