Part of the ‘Ruth and Carl J. Shapiro Celebrity Lectures’ series, Theaster Gates will deliver two lectures on consecutive nights at MFA Boston. On 10 December in ‘Theaster Gates: The Artist and Cultural Spaces’ Gates will discuss his career and practice, considering the use of art to inspire economic and social change.
On 11 December, Gates will be joined by Bill T. Jones to further consider ‘The Artist and Cultural Spaces’. Jones is an artistic director, dancer and choreographer, and the discussion will touch upon the relationship between body and space, as well as the role of avant-garde dance in contemporary art. Gates and Jones recently collaborated on Story/Time with the Arnie Zane Dance Company at New York Live Arts.
