13 June—19 June 2016
A new site-specific work by Virginia Overton will be exhibited as part of Parcours at Art Basel 2016.
Overton presents Untitled (HILUX), where a pick-up truck deconstructed by the artist will be shown as part of Art Basel’s off-site presentation across the city. The vehicle is drained, dismantled and presented as a carefully balanced assemblage. Through Overton's consideration of the placement of each part, new forms and gestures are created, jumbling all that is normally recognisable.
The pick-up truck has been a recurring object in Overton’s work. The vehicle references ‘working class America’ and is itself a modern day work horse, assisting the artist in gathering and transporting found materials for her practice.
The Parcours sector of Art Basel engages the public and fairgoers by placing site-specific sculptures, interventions, and performances in the city's neighbourhoods. Parcours will be curated for the first time in 2016 by Samuel Leuenberger.
