Cerith Wyn Evans and Gabriel Orozco are among the 120 artists from 51 countries featured in the International Art Exhibition for the 57th Venice Biennale.
Titled VIVA ARTE VIVA, the exhibition has been curated by Christine Macel who highlights, in her introduction, the importance of art in ‘a world of conflicts and shocks’, emphasising that ‘the role, the voice and the responsibility of the artist are more crucial than ever before within the framework of contemporary debates.’
Christian Marclay will also participate as co-curator of the French Pavilion, one of 85 National Pavilions included in the Biennale, along with art critic and MAMCO director Lionel Bovier. Marclay and Bovier have worked with artist Xavier Veilhan to present Studio Venezia. The work takes the form of a 1970s-style recording studio and acts as both an installation and a functioning studio, where musicians will be invited to work on new material throughout the Biennale.
