18 – 21 June 2015
Stand Location: D13
At Art Basel White Cube will present works by artists including Georg Baselitz, Tracey Emin, Theaster Gates, Antony Gormley, Mona Hatoum, Robert Irwin and Magnus Plessen.
This year’s Art Basel Unlimited – Art Basel’s exhibition platform, curated by Gianni Jetzer – will feature solo presentations by Robert Irwin and Sarah Morris.
Robert Irwin’s installation Black³ (2008) aims to refocus the viewer’s eye, exploring the pheonomological power of colour. A painted black square is encountered through a series of framed voile panels, which create the effect of an abstract image that exists in both two and three dimensions.
Sarah Morris presents her recent film Strange Magic (2014), originally commissioned for the opening of the Fondation Louis Vuitton. The film, like Morris’s paintings, looks to decode the built environment, exploring cultural, economic and social typologies. Deconstructing the machinery behind France’s most desired commodities – champagne, perfume, fashion – the artist probes concepts of national identity and the inherent fantasy in the pursuit of luxury.
