He Xiangyu’s The Swim (2017) sees its European premiere during Art Basel’s week-long program of film screenings curated by Maxa Zoller. The film documents He Xiangyu’s return to his native city of Kuandian, located on the border between China and North Korea. Through interviews with veterans of the Korean-American War as well as with defectors from North Korea, the artist paints a dark, yet moving portrait of his homeland.
The Swim will be shown on Tuesday 13 June 2017, at 8pm, at Stadtkino Basel, Klostergasse 5, 4051 Basel.
