White Cube is pleased to present Asphalt, a print by Eberhard Havekost. There has always been an important interplay between photography and painting in Havekost’s work, the photograph often acting as the very starting point and structure to his paintings. Inversely, the image is shot with a strong painterly sentiment, both in colour and composition. The traditional methods used to print these lithographs intensifies the textures, colours and photographic definition of the image. Like his paintings, the subjects of Havekost’s prints often capture a fragment of everyday life that has been overlooked, allowing for new contemplation on something otherwise unappreciated.
