In this film, Antony Gormley discusses his major installation Horizon Field, at Deichtorhalle, Hamburg, 2012. Gormley talks about how this work reverses the usual conditions of his sculpture: stillness, silence and inertia and, instead, attempts to highlight free movement, creating new relationships between its context and the internal conditions of the viewer. Likening the atmosphere of the exhibition to the free spirit encountered on a beach, Gormley discusses how the work is, in effect, a mediating platform that makes the museum “porous” and which provides a new vantage point for “looking out”.
