A series of new drawings by Julie Mehretu (b. 1970, Addis Ababa, Ethiopia) feature in a presentation of the artist’s works on paper at White Cube Paris.

Shown alongside early works dating back to 1998, the works featured in this show demonstrate Mehretu’s unique mark-making; from her early layered language of mapping and architectural detailing, to more recent powerful, animated compositions which take the immediacy of news photography as their starting point.

Co-organised by the Los Angeles County Museum of Art, a major mid-career retrospective of Mehretu’s work is showing at the Whitney Museum of American Art until 8 August 2021. This major exhibition spans the artist’s career, featuring early works of the 90s to recent large-scale canvasses such as Hineni (E. 3:4), (2018), on loan from the Centre Pompidou, Paris.
