In spring 2025, the Van Gogh Museum and the Stedelijk Museum Amsterdam will present a major solo exhibition of works by Anselm Kiefer. Titled ‘Anselm Kiefer – Sag mir wo die Blumen sind’, after Pete Seeger’s 1955 protest song ‘Where Have All the Flowers Gone’, the exhibition marks the first time the two museums have joined forces to present one show in two parts.

Both museums will display previously unexhibited work, highlighting the enduring influence of van Gogh on the artist’s practice and presenting Kiefer’s best-loved works from the Van Gogh Museum's collection.

Anselm Kiefer has said of the upcoming exhibition: ‘My long history with the Netherlands is culminating in this exhibition, and I’m looking forward to revisit Amsterdam again. Vincent van Gogh has always had, and still has, a big impact on me; his journey – from what he wanted to achieve to what he achieved – is visible in almost all of his paintings. Each of his vigorous brushstrokes is an eruption, a manifestation of resistance. This is something I deeply recognise.'
