Anselm Kiefer is awarded the J. Paul Getty Medal at the Morgan Library, New York on 13 November 2017.

The J. Paul Getty Trust announced in 2017 that artist Anselm Kiefer and writer Mario Vargas Llosa are the recipients of the J. Paul Getty Medal. Since its establishment in 2013, the medal has been awarded to six individuals to honour their extraordinary contributions to the practice, understanding and support of the arts.

“Anselm Kiefer and Mario Vargas Llosa are both engaged in big ideas and historic moments, and they share with the Getty a passionate commitment to global culture,” said Maria Hummer-Tuttle, chair, J. Paul Getty Board of Trustees.
