'ANSELM' – Wim Wenders’ immersive documentary on Anselm Kiefer

Since premiering at Cannes Film Festival in May, renowned filmmaker Wim Wenders’ immersive 3D documentary, ANSELM, will be on view in cinemas from October 2023. This stirring, reverent portrait delves into the life and work of Anselm Kiefer, interweaving the artist’s past and present to shed light on the inspirations and creative process that have helped shape his visionary universe.

On discussing Kiefer’s practice, Wim Wenders stated: ‘There is no way to describe it. It escapes translation […] there is a man who is not afraid to paint anything. He can paint the universe, and he can paint mathematic formula, and he can paint history, and he can paint myths, biology, alchemy. He’s not afraid of any of human knowledge to go into painting or sculpture.’
