In January 2025, Darren Almond will present a solo show of works at the Museo Cappella Sansevero, a historic 16th-century chapel in Naples, Italy. The exhibition will feature a new body of paintings, in which Almond draws on the imagery of Lucian Freud’s painting rags to explore ideas of cloth as both remnant and transformative medium.

The chapel houses Giuseppe Sanmartino’s Veiled Christ (1753), a carved marble sculpture depicting the deceased Christ draped in a shroud, revered for its masterful rendering of the fabric’s transparent folds in stone.
