'Etel Adnan: Light's New Measure' at Guggenheim, New York

Posted:

8 October 2021 – 10 January 2022

Guggenheim, New York presents Etel Adnan: Light's New Measure, a major solo exhibition of the artist's work that spans a 60-year period. Beirut-born and Paris-based, Adnan is an artist, poet, journalist and novelist whose work reflects on and draws from a multitude of cultural influences. Always moving between the spheres of visual arts and literature, she has stated: 'It seems to me that I write what I see, paint what I am'. Her first exhibition in New York includes paintings, tapestries, films and works on paper as well as a selection of leporellos – accordion-fold paper books that combine text and image. Known for her radiant, intimate-scale work, Adnan poetically distills sensations and perception often through the veil of memory. This exhibition coincides with a presentation of work by Vasily Kandinsky, an artist of profound influence on Adnan throughout her artistic career.
