London

Presented to coincide with the first anniversary of The Gilbert & George Centre, 28 of the artists’ ‘LONDON PICTURES’ – many of which have not been seen in the UK previously – will be exhibited from 12 April for the duration of 2024. The subject matter of this series is based on 3,712 newspaper posters taken by the artists over a number of years, offering both a directory of urban human behaviour and a moral portrait of our times.

The ‘LONDON PICTURES’ were first unveiled over a decade ago on a global tour, including displays at White Cube’s galleries in Bermondsey, Mason’s Yard and Hoxton Square in London, as well as Hong Kong.

“London is the most important part of our inspiration. It is all that surrounds us. And so we have been able to include all this remarkable surface of thoughts and feeling that we find in these posters...” – Gilbert & George
