On the occasion of Ibrahim Mahama’s monumental lakeside commission, Purple Hibiscus, the Barbican will host a keynote talk by the artist.

During the talk, Mahama will discuss the inspiration behind his Barbican commission, his practice in Tamale, Ghana, and the Red Clay Studio and educational campus, founded by the artist in 2020.

Purple Hibiscus envelops the Barbican’s famous Lakeside Terrace, with approximately 2,000 square metres of bespoke woven cloth covering the brutalist complex’s concrete exterior.
