Looking Up: The Skyviewing Sculptures of Isamu Noguchi

Posted:

26 July – 26 November 2022

A new exhibition of works by Isamu Noguchi explores the theme of sky viewing. Presented in the Western Gallery at Western Washington University, the show features more than 40 sculptures, models, drawings, and photographs, dating from 1928 to 1988, that mirror the sky, trace the path of the earth around the sun, and lead the eye into the beyond. Recalling observatories, telescopes, sundials, celestial bodies, and spaceships, these works encourage ‘an awareness of the void’ and express Noguchi’s desire to help humanity to calibrate ‘the relative value of all things.’
